2017 Family Letter

Hey, I forgot to post our family letter for December 2017!  I've been writing a family update since December 2001 when I was 13.  I'll post it quick before I forget again!
December 2017
Dear Loved Ones,

Greetings from the town of Canyon, Texas, where the Greer household landed with bag and baggage
in the fall of this year!  It seems like a Niagara of water has gone under the bridge since last year’s
letter.  We are loving the many adventures the Lord sent our way this year, including relocation over a
thousand miles away from the place where we were born and raised.

The saga of our journey began one hot September afternoon as TJ and I were discussing our hopes
and plans for the future--something we do often.  We were talking over his various work situations and
opportunities in California, and the subject of Texas came up per Hurricane Harvey which was in the
news and had devastated southern Texas.  “I bet Texas has a lot of construction jobs,” TJ commented.
“Maybe,” I answered, “I’ll call my uncle who lives near Amarillo and ask what Texas is like.”

I talked with Uncle Glayde and Aunt Debbie that afternoon and they proved to be excellent salespeople
when it came to the Lone Star State, ending up with an offer of a place to stay and help getting settled
if we wanted to move there.  I was shaking with excitement by the time our conversation ended, and
called TJ right back.  “Hey honey, how would you like to move to Texas?”

After 24 hours of discussing the pros and cons, we felt at peace that God wanted us to move our family
out to Texas where a lot of our freedoms still remained, and when it came right down to it we loved the
idea of an adventure like that!

The next six weeks were a whirlwind of saying goodbye to family and friends, selling most of our
worldly goods, packing a small trailer with what remained and which would be pulled behind TJ’s
Ford Ranger.  The move was smoothed out to the last detail, confirming in our hearts that the Lord was
guiding us, and after the initial decision neither of us had a moment of doubt.  Even my car was sold
within 30 minutes of advertising it online, for more than asking price, to a good friend whose car had
just died!  Many, many coincidences like this one solidified the peace in our hearts and increased our
excitement for Texas!  Our families were very helpful and supportive, and gathered to help us pack on
the last day.  It was an epic packing marathon which ended with not a square inch of room to spare!

It took us three days to cross the deserts and mountains of California, Arizona, and New
Mexico, and we arrived in Canyon Texas exhausted but happy.  We absolutely love our new
home state and town, and love exploring the roads and cities and scenery!

TJ landed an excellent job as a maintenance tech with Happy State Bank, and is thoroughly
enjoying his new colleagues and duties and the fact that he works for one of the highest rated
“great places to work” companies in the U.S.  During the process of finding the job, he worked
very hard on our house that we’re living in here, remodeling the bathroom and starting the
kitchen remodel.  We miss not having him around the house all day every day now!

I (Jenna) am so very happy, excited, and blessed to be able to devote my full time and attention
to our two growing little girls, and for the first time in a long time not have any part time jobs
to distract me from my main, most important job of being a wife and mother!  I’m having so
much fun exploring the parks and neighborhoods in our small town, and striking up
acquaintances with other ladies here.  I’m hoping to join the local Homeschool Association
soon, and  I’m having way too much fun planning out my new kitchen, catching up on
scrapbooking, and joining a CrossFit class.

Isabella is two years old now, and is our little friend and delight.  She gets excited about every
little thing, from her sister waking up from a nap, to her new kittens, to snack time, to Daddy
coming home from work.  She is learning not to push her toddling little sister over, and
alternates between trying to wrestle her and being sweet and gentle and sharing food and toys
with her.  She knows the alphabet backwards, forwards, and mixed up; she knows her numbers
up to 20, and most colors.  Her current favorite phrases are “Whatcha doing?” and “Where you
going?”  She wants to be actively involved in whatever TJ or I are doing, and is very good at
picking up her toys sometimes.
Elizabeth turned one on Black Friday, and is such a bundle of joy.  She has a big smile for
everyone she meets, and likes going up to new people and making friends with them.  She
started walking at 10 months old, and toddles around following her sister wherever she goes.
I see her sometimes contentedly sucking her thumb, holding one ear, and watching her older
sister adoringly.  She is a daddy’s girl, and loves TJ to death.  She falls asleep snuggled in his
arms, and her mommy melts into a puddle at the sight.  She’s the sweetest, most kissable baby
in the world! (I know, I know, I’m prejudiced.)

May you have a blessed, wonderful holiday season.  Jesus is the reason for the season!  Our
hearts are full of gratitude and we pray yours will be as well.

Much love from the Greer family

T.J., Jenna, Bella, & Lizzy
